Monteiro Freitas, Marlene

This piece derives from a person’s picture I drew as a memento of a concert. I called him Guintche and meanwhile he grew, acquired self-life, autonomy, rebelled. Drawings create persona whose fate is emancipating themselves. Guintche is no longer a prosthesis of a thought in order to become a dance. The repetitive and circular whirl of music makes Guintche twirl progressively out of himself: out of his face will emerge the ugly and the monstrous, from his hands emerges the mask, hands successively chewed, incorporated and spewed; in its twirl and twist, the body shrinks, expands, transforms, disfigures itself. The initial rhythm whirls and expands until grasping the whole piece (only apparently this does not happen), imposing to it its heterogeneity and differences, determining successive changes of direction. The line that is drawn between one body and another is discontinuous; the body comes out of itself; the path of intensity is taken.
