David Marques

DAVID MARQUES (Torres Novas, 1985) studied Dance at Escola Superior de Dança de Lisboa and Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier (dir. Mathilde Monnier). He began to develop his own work as a choreographer in 2007 with the support of EIRA in Lisbon. Since then, his work has been presented in Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Ukraine and Israel. He created 'Motor de Busca', 'Future Plans', 'KIN' and 'Conquest', a choreographic adaptation of a Deborah Hay solo comissioned by Fundação de Serralves. With Ido Feder, he created 'Bête de Scène', 'Images de Bêtes', in collaboration wtih photographer Uri Gershuni, for Festival Temps D'Images and 'THE POWERS THAT B', performed by Francisco Camacho and Tamar Shelef. He has received funding from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Portuguese Ministry of Culture. He has performed for other choreographers including Francisco Camacho ('im-' and 'ANDIAMO!'), Filipa Francisco ('A Viagem'), Tiago Guedes ('Materiais Diversos'), Lígia Teixeira ('Algum Dia Tinha que Ser a Sério…'), Maya Levy&Anando Mars ('Renaissance'), Bosmat Nossan ('Insect'), Loic Touzé ('Fanfare'), David Wampach ('URGE'), Lucie Tumova ('On the Rocks') and visual artista Emily Wardill ('I gave my love a cherry that had no stone'). He has taught choreographic composition workshops at Forum Dança in Lisbon, at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and in the context of the Dance Research Project (SIDance) in Seoul.
