Jovana Rakić

Jovana Rakić  currently lives in Serbia, working in the field of contemporary dance and performing arts. She graduated MA studies in Anthropology at Belgrade University, and holds MA  degree in Dance Dissemination, Hochschule für Musik und Tanz (Zentrum für zeitgenössischen Tanz), Cologne, Germany.

Her interest in contemporary dance and choreography as a part of  artistic practise and everyday life  involves the dissemination of dance as continuous communication through learning, creating, performing and questioning means of expression in the context of this artistic field and wider social and political context.  

She was one of six authors engaged in the project Temporaries, supported by APAP network (2012-2013) which gathered emerging choreographers from the local dance scene (with Ana Dubljević, Dušan Broćić, Igor Koruga, Ljiljana Tasić, Marko Milić). Her artistic collaborations also include: Concerto for Three Bodies (with Aleksandar Georgiev and Azra Ibrahimović), Skin is the Wall  (with Adrijana Lubina and Jelena Stojiljković). She is an author of: Accumulated Figures (Cologne 2012.)SS and above (Belgrade 2011.)Choreography of Imagination  (MA research and performance, Cologne 2014.), Species (Belgrade 2015.) etc

Jovana was a recipient of Dance Web scholarship 2011 and took part in Nomad Dance Academy 2010 and ENPARTS Open Campus, Dansens Hus, Stockholm 2011. She received the Special Price for Innovation in Contemporary Dance (as the author of the performance Species, season 2015-2016.  introduced  by  the Association of Ballet Artists of Serbia)

Since 2008. Jovana  has been collaborating with socially marginalized groups and individuals in Serbia: people with disabilities, war veterans,mentally challenged children and young people. In this context she worked as choreographer, dancer and dance teacher within projects The Day After, Body Frame, Right to Art, Together (group „Let’s…“, Belgrade).  Since  2014 she became active in projects with focus on performing arts and dance education for children, working on developing dance theater and creative dance education (Generator platform, Station- Service for Contemporary dance, Belgrade) .

As an author and performer she took part in festivals:  Bitef (Belgrade), Infant (Novi Sad), ImpulsTanz (Vienna), TheaterSzene (Cologne), Kondenz (Belgrade), Pleskavica (Ljubljana), Platform of Young Choreographers (Zagreb), Locomotion (Skopje), Off Frame (Belgrade), FIAT (Podgorica), Performing Arts Market (Thessaloniki), Shaking Body (London).

 In 2011. together with fellow artists she initiated Off Frame festival which focuses on socially engaged performing art. She is one of the artists closely engaged in work of Station- Service for Contemporary Dance and group „Let’s…“.
